UNITA Innovation Prize 2022

We won the UNITA Innovation Prize!

MAiCRO is a software for the early detection of eye diseases and got awarded in an online ceremony as the best innovation project in the general (no-hubs) category.

MAiCRO is a pioneering early eye disease detection method because it simultaneously considers macroscopic and microscopic levels. In the clinical validation phase, MAiCRO proved able to detect eye diseases before the existence of any clinical sign with a 97 % success rate, and up to 100 % if clinical signs were observed.

I started working on MAiCRO 4 years ago, and researchers from Spain, Poland, Belgium, and Australia have supported me to make MAiCRO a reality. Big thanks to the team, Laura Remón (University of  Zaragoza), Jos Rozema, Marta Jiménez García, Ikram Issarti (University of Antwerp), Elke O. Kreps (Ghent University Hospital), D. Robert Iskander, Maria Miażdżyk (Wroclaw University of Science and Technology), Maciej Wojtkowski, Karol Karnowski (ICTER-International Centre for Translational Eye Research), David Alonso-Caneiro, Stephen Vincent (Queensland University of Technology)

UNITA is an alliance of 6 European universities, spanning 6 different countries. MAiCRO first won as a representative of the University of Zaragoza, and later as the best international project.

We keep working! 👁
