Online teaching

As a lecturer of Physics at the University of Zaragoza, I teach the fundamentals of Physics (i.e., classical mechanics, thermodynamics, fluids, electromagnetism, waves and optics) to engineering students enrolled in the School of Engineering and Architecture.

The first semester of the academic year 2020-21 we only gave online lectures. Quite a challenge for a rookie. However, even though students are not very communicative and often one has the feeling to be talking alone (students do not switch on their cameras), I do enjoy online teaching. When asked directly, students are responsive. In addition, online teaching gives a degree of flexibility that traditional lessons cannot offer. Anyhow, I asked the students their opinion about which kind of teaching modality they prefer (anonymous questionnaire), and even though majority of them prefer standard onsite lessons (58.6 %), many declared they prefer a combined hybrid system (27.6 %) or even only online classes (13.8 %).
